Farrington’s Farm Shop is based at Home Farm, an idyllic 400 acre working farm in the Somerset village of Farrington Gurney.We are a thriving Farmshop & Café/Restaurant in the heart of Somerset, passionate about celebrating the best of local, seasonal produce. Our menus reflect the rhythm of the seasons, showcasing ingredients sourced directly from our farm where possible, and trusted local suppliers. We take pride in creating delicious, honest food in a warm and welcoming environment that embodies the best of the Somerset countryside.
The Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and creative Head Chef to lead our busy kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual who shares our love of fresh, seasonal food and who thrives in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
You’ll take full ownership of the kitchen, from menu development and costings to team leadership, food safety, and HACCP compliance. Working closely with the Café Manager & Hospitality Operations Manager, you’ll ensure our menus evolve with the seasons while maintaining profitability, consistency and high standards.
4 day week available. Approximately 40 hours a week. No split shifts. No evening shifts.
Responsibilities:
Lead the kitchen team to deliver exceptional, seasonal dishes made from the freshest local ingredients.
Develop and update seasonal menus, ensuring balance, creativity, and profitability.
Manage dish costings, stock control, and supplier relationships.
Oversee all aspects of food safety, including allergen management and HACCP documentation.
Train, motivate, and inspire kitchen staff to uphold the highest standards of quality and consistency.
Work collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams to deliver a seamless customer experience.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Head Chef (or strong Sous Chef ready for the next step) in a busy restaurant or café environment.
A genuine passion for fresh, seasonal and locally sourced food.
Strong track record in menu development, cost control and profitability management.
Excellent understanding of allergens, HACCP and food safety legislation.
Creative, organised and calm under pressure with excellent leadership and communication skills.
