About us

Farrington’s Farm is a family-run farm shop set on a stunning 400-acre working farm in the heart of Somerset. We’re passionate about fresh, local produce and creating a welcoming experience for every customer.

Located on site is our farm shop, café, playbarn and outdoor farm park. We also host popular seasonal events, including our well-known pumpkin picking event.

The role

As Farm Shop Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Farm Shop and Deli, supporting the Deli & Retail Operations Manager and helping to drive the success of the business.

We are looking for someone full of energy and enthusiasm, with a genuine passion for great food and local produce, who enjoys working with people and thrives in a busy, hands-on environment. You will lead by example on the shop floor, delivering excellent customer service and supporting the team to maintain high standards.

You will take responsibility for the Farm Shop and Deli in the Manager’s absence, ensuring the operation runs smoothly, safely and commercially.

Reporting to: Deli & Retail Operations Manager

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily Farm Shop & Deli operations in the Manager’s absence.

• Support opening/closing, cash handling, stock ordering and general administration.

• Allocate tasks and lead the team to maintain high standards.

• Assist with recruitment, rotas, training and performance management.

• Deliver excellent customer service and handle enquiries/complaints.

• Manage stock levels, rotation, wastage and supplier relationships.

• Support sales performance through merchandising, promotions and events.

• Run deli operations when required, including service, prep and stock control.

• Maintain strict food safety, hygiene and compliance standards.

Key requirements

• Supervisory/management experience in retail, hospitality or food service.

• Confident team leadership, task allocation and performance management.

• Strong customer service skills and complaint handling.

• Organised, able to prioritise and work independently or in a busy team.

• Experience with EPOS or stock management systems.

• Commercial awareness of sales, stock and profitability.

• Willingness to learn food safety and compliance.

• Flexible to work weekends and seasonal events.

Desirable: Farm shop/deli/premium food retail experience, Food Safety Level 2, First Aid.

Pay: £14.50 - £15.50 depending on skills and experience. The ability to commute easily to BS39 6UB is essential.
