About us

Farrington’s Farm is a family-run farm shop set on a stunning 400-acre working farm in the heart of Somerset. We’re passionate about fresh, local produce and creating a welcoming experience for every customer.

On site we have a farm shop, café, playbarn, outdoor farm park and host popular seasonal events, including our well-known Pumpkin Festival.


We're looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our Playbarn team in order to continue delivering excellent food to our customers.


The role

As a Playbarn Cook, you'll work under our Kitchen Manager and within the wider Playbarn team, preparing and serving a range of dishes. You'll help maintain high standards of food quality, cleanliness and organisation, ensuring every customer enjoys a great dining experience.


The successful applicant will be flexible and available to work approximately 6 shifts per fortnight (part-time), with shifts scheduled across Monday to Sunday. Shifts will typically fall between 8am and 4pm. You'll be required to work every other weekend. Additional hours may be available seasonally.

You’ll be working in a beautiful rural setting with a supportive, friendly team and a strong connection to local food and community.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble a range of dishes.

  • Ensure all dishes are presented consistently and to our standards.

  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen.

  • Assist with stock rotation, storage and basic stock checks.

  • Help minimise food waste through careful preparation and portion control.

  • Follow recipes and preparation methods as per training.

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth day-to-day service.

  • Assist with menu changes and seasonal specials when required.


Requirements

  • Previous experience preparing food in a commercial kitchen, café or similar hospitality environment

  • Basic Food Safety training (Level 2 Food hygiene certificate beneficial but training will be provided)

  • Excellent organisation and time management skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Due to our location, use of your own vehicle is necessary or access to public transport to Farrington Gurney.
